Andy Brodziak (www.andybrodziak.com) reports on his "perfect race" - a rarity for anyone when talking iron-distance - at the Vineman which took place at the end of July in the U.S.

A Perfect race I had, when the finish time doesn't reflect the performance I think!

With slight confusion over the final position due to timing issues, it now says 7th overall, 10h 13. Only three athletes went sub-10 hours which reflects a bit about the race. Second in Age Group which earned me some good La Crema local wine from the region!

Thank you to all my sponsors that have contributed to me getting there in great shape:

Cairn Capital, Profeet, Valdora Cycles, 2XU, Energicer, Chelsea & Fulham Chiro, Hammer Nutrition.

What a day I had, the plan was to swim solid and hold back on the bike but stay strong and then use my run legs to real them in. Swim was fine, slower time but that's how it goes and the bike leg was great, got nutrition in fine and no stomach issues.

Andy Brodziak exist the swim, than looks happy on the bike

By the time I got on the run it had warmed up at least to 30 degrees but wasn't horrible. I moved from 18th or so off the bike up in position steadily on a hilly, slow marathon course and thought I had finished 6th as that's what was announced but I think it's 7th!

Well, not often you get to say in Ironman that you had the perfect race unless you Chrissie Wellington, but I DID!

Just the best feeling in the world, thanks for all the support, emails & texts.

The time I spent here in Santa Rosa was just epic, thanks to my lovely sister, Di, for letting me stay for the month plus ALL the support on the day, taking me to the swim start at 4-45am!

To Jean Martin for all the great sports massage I had leading up to the race which was integral in getting to the start line fresh!

Back to London now for my next adventure & the baby cub expected in August, can't wait!!

Cheers
Andy
