DERBY TRI THE NEW LEAGUE CHAMPIONS - TRI LONDON LADIES RETAIN THEIR LADIES' CHAMPIONSHIP

The UK League's sixteenth year of competition has now been concluded, and Derby Tri, former League champions on many occasions, but pushed into third place by Tri London and Hartlepool in 2008, have returned to their winning ways. It has been a year in which several clubs have elected to take time out from the League, or to field smaller squads, but Derby Tri have once again achieved their championship by their renowned strength in depth and their ability to succeed in some of the more difficult events held abroad as well as those held in the UK.

It wasn't a cakewalk for Derby, however, as Hartlepool came within half a point of beating them at Lanzarote, Tri London took the League honours at both Ironman France and Ironman Germany, but at Roth, Derby Tri achieved a team score that exceeded by a considerable amount the highest scores achieved by other League clubs in any comparable event. With scores of 500+ at three events, and a fourth score of almost the same level, Derby deserved their title, and have once again shown how things may be done.

The Ladies' Championship has been retained by Tri London Ladies, by virtue of their achieving three team scores as opposed to the two achieved by their only rivals, Leeds & Bradford Ladies. Some of the clubs that rested from the League this year, or put in reduced squads without ladies, would have given more edge to the competition, but we hope for a better situation in 2010. More detailed commentary on the Championship and the various other competitions will conclude our year's business in the final report, which will appear towards the end of November, but this report will now concentrate on top scores in the various competitions, beginning with the final League Table, given below:
