The sun shone again for the sell out Crystal Palace Triathlon which saw some strong racing as the event was also round three of the Triathlon London, Yellow Jersey League.

With over 1000 competitors, young and old, battling it out within the confines of the traffic-free Crystal Palace Park course, first place honours went to Chris Whitcombe who finished in 1:02:26, setting a new course record! Second place went to Andrew Greenleaf from Serpentine (who also broke the previous course record) and third place to Gary Laybourne from South London Harriers.

The first lady, Amy Pritchard from Tri London, finished 35th in 1:12:07. 2nd place, just five seconds behind, was Hannah Ewens from Crystal Palace Triathletes in 1:12:12 (Hannah was also the fastest 20+ female) and third was Suse Fairfax, also from Crystal Palace Triathletes, in 01:13:21 (Suse was also the fastest 40+ female).

Official photographs are now available on the ProSport Photo website. Graham took over 5,000 photographs so there should be a few of everyone on the bike and the run.

We had some wonderful feedback from competitors, sponsors and race officials:

  • This event is established as an icon and a “must do” event. Once again it was a magnificent; extremely well put together and professionally run by the team of volunteers from Crystal Palace Tri Club.
  • The friendly support and energy that exuded from everyone made the event possibly the best CPT Triathlon so far and rightly drew nothing but a flood of compliments from competitors.
  • Thanks so much CPT Tri Club, best run triathlon ever. Great reports from Windrush Tri Club juniors about how great briefing and marshals were.
  • CPT thanks for organising such a great event. Today was my first triathlon. Great intro into the sport.
  • We were blown away with your event, you guys should go into professional event management and if we’re invited, we’ll 100% be back next year!
  • Thank you so much for what was a superbly organized event. Highlight for me was the friendliness and encouragement from the course marshals who were without exception brilliant. I could see myself doing this event year after year.

In thanking members for organising and marshalling the event, Crystal Palace Triathletes acting-Chairman, Rob Parry commented, "Our race epitomises the purpose of a grass roots sports club, giving all ages a chance to participate in healthy competition, realise their goals, and inspire others to be more active, whilst showcasing the fantastic facilities our park has to offer. I’m sure you all feel very proud to be members. I know I am!".

Congratulations also to all our spot prize winners who won various prizes from our race sponsors Zone3; Crystal Palace Physiotherapy Group; Schwalbe; Blue Door Bicycles; Swim For Tri; Bloodwise; Endura; Yellow Jersey Insurance; Cadence Cyclng Performance; Kitbrix; Safesport ID; Generation UCAN; Endurance Conspiracy and Lucho Dillitos.
