India Lee takes the biggest win of her career in Italy

A challenging, Sprint distance course in Cagliari, Italy was the scene this morning for a huge performance from Great Britain's India Lee, as she took a first major international victory by winning the Cagliari ITU Triathlon World Cup.

Using a 'race to your strengths' approach, Lee put in a big attack on the bike to gain a solo lead on arrival at T2 of 40 seconds, on a course which included a big climb to be ascended four times. Putting it all out there, Lee was giving herself every opportunity - and with a strong running background too, the chance to hold firm over the final 5km, despite those efforts on two wheels. A group of 12 were going to be chasing her, including Olympic Silver medallist and former World Champion Lisa Norden, plus the welcome return to racing after an absence of more than two years of fellow Brit Georgia Taylor-Brown.

From that pack, Germany's Lisa Sieburger would prove to be the fastest runner, but the 14 seconds she gained on Lee was not even close to stopping the brave Brit from a huge result, as Lee added the sixth fastest run split to her fastest bike split for a clear margin of victopry at the finish. After so long out, Taylor-Brown faded slighty to finish 12th, but she can certainly build from there - it's great to see her back finally.
