British Triathlon Awards 2015 - and the winners are...

Chessington World of Adventures last night was the venue for the 2015 British Triathlon Awards, with Tri247 Editor John Levison hosting the evening - a rare excuse to dig out the dinner jacket and bow tie... and a pleasant surprise to find that it still fits.

A fun night, which also including the unveiling of a new British Triathlon logo, brand and vision which you'll see a lot more of over the coming week.

2015 stars of the sport recognised at British Triathlon Awards Dinner

Non Stanford was named Olympic Athlete of the Year at a star-studded celebration of triathlon's biggest achievements in 2015.

The ITU World Triathlon Grand Final silver medallist was awarded the accolade; presented to each of the 33 Olympic Governing Bodies on an annual basis to recognise their top Olympic athlete. Non returned from injury to take silver at both the ITU World Triathlon Series Grand Final and the Rio Test Event, meeting the requirements for pre-selection for the Rio Olympics next summer.

On receiving the award, Non said: "When you're from this crop of athletes where talent is in abundance, it's quite an honour to receive it really. It's nice for both Vicky and I to be recognised this year after we brought home the silverware during the season.

"I've dreamed of going to the Olympics for years – I don't think it will really set in until kitting out day; then it will be really exciting. I think it would be defeatist of me to think that Gwen was unbeatable. I think I have it in me so we will have to wait and see."

The British Triathlon Female Elite Triathlete of the Year Award was presented to Vicky Holland following her fantastic season. Banking an emphatic victory in Cape Town, her first ITU World Triathlon Series win, she went on to podium at the ITU World Triathlon Series Grand Final and the Rio Test Event.

Jonathan Brownlee successfully picking up the British Triathlon Male Elite Triathlete of the Year Award following his two ITU World Triathlon Series race wins in Auckland and the Gold Coast earlier this year.

Jonathan said: "I haven't had my best year with injuries and so it's a great feeling to pick this award up. Looking back over the season, my best performance was certainly my win on the Gold Coast and I can take a lot from that into Rio, with it being a pretty similar course.

"Next year I can go into the Olympics in the best possible position to win a medal and hopefully replay the success in London."

ITU Paratriathlon World Champion, Lauren Steadman (PT4), was awarded the British Triathlon Female Paratriathlete of the Year award for the second consecutive year, after a phenomenal season which witnessed her crowned ITU World and ETU European Champion alongside a win at the Rio Test Event in August. George Peasgood (PT4) picked up the men's award after a strong season on the international circuit.

Lauren said: "It's been a whirlwind year this year. The competition has got twice as hard, if not three times as hard, but these awards are great as everyone gets recognition for all their hard work.

Lauren Steadman

"My highlight of 2015 has to be the ITU World Championships. To defend my title was fantastic and really sets my up for next year and hopefully making it to Rio to take a Paralympic title."

The Peter Holmes Award for Inspirational Performance in International Competition was jointly awarded to Gordon Benson, Tom Bishop and Phil Graves, following their incredible team performance at the debut European Games in Baku earlier this year, which saw Gordon take the title.
