Yvonne Van Vlerken becomes first female to record TEN career Sub-9 hour iron-distance finishes at Ironman Barcelona

Eight years in the making. In winning Ironman Barcelona on Sunday, the Flying Dutch Girl Yvonne Van Vlerken reached a career goal which reflects both her longevity and consistency, when recording her tenth finish over the iron-distance in under nine hours. After Challenge Roth in July, Yvonne had moved level with Chrissie Wellington with 'nine under nine', but now she takes pole position at the top of that statistic. The full Sub-9 Club archive is now available HERE.

While nobody was able to beat Chrissie head-to-head in her unbeaten Ironman career, reaching this milestone for Van Vlerken is something special, and there is no reason to believe she plans on stopping yet.

As well as volume of races, what also stands out is the period over which Yvonne has recorded her times. She finished with a time of 8:51:55 when winning Challenge Roth in 2007 (her first sub-nine) - and eight years later won the race again, just 62 seconds quicker. Nobody else has come close to breaking the nine hour mark over such an extended period of time. What's also interesting is that there was more than a four year gap between her third (Roth 2008) and fourth (Florida 2012) fast finishes - but she seems to be making up for lost time now.

There is also another statistic which reflects just how good her 2015 season has been. With Melbourne, Roth and Barcelona all finished in under nine hours this year, Yvonne is now the only female other than Chrissie to have managed three Sub-9's in one season.

Here is the full archive of her record-breaking numbers:
