Great Britain's Tim Don takes his first venture into full distance Ironman racing this Saturday, at the first edition of Ironman Mallorca, based in Alcudia.

A huge Age Group sign-up has been matched by a large professional field, racing for 2015 KPR points (2000) and a prize fund of $25,000. That said, we expect a few athletes - in addition to those we have noted below - will not be racing, having either gained a late notice Kona slot (like Ronnie Schildknecht), or racing elsewhere, including Ironman Barcelona next weekend (Joe Skipper, Nicholas Ward Munoz).

The headline name, appropriately, is race #1, Timo Bracht of Germany. Kona was not in his plans for 2014, and he has already produced a stunning race this summer at Challenge Roth, taking the going under eight hours for the second time in his career with a 7:56:00 finish. There is a British connection too - with Bracht now being coached by British pairing of Matt Bottrill and Bob Tobin. Bottrill has been cleaning up on the domestic fime trial scene with a host of competition recor this season, while Bob is the brains behind www.cyclepowermeters.com.

Tim Don arrives in Mallorca on a high, having taken the Bronze medal at the Ironman 70.3 World Champs in Mont Tremblant behind Javier Gomez and Jan Frodeno, in arguably one of the strongest middle distance fields we've ever seen. With a CV that include senior ITU World Championship titles in Aquathlon, Duathlon and Triathlon, along with a 1500m track PB of 3:47, a road 10km of 28:56, three Olympic appearances and winner of the Hy-Vee Triathlon in 2008, 'The Don' has been able to turn his hand to most formats over his near 20 years in the sport - Mallorca marks another challenge for him.
