Belgium's Marino Vanhoenacker is always a potential game changer in Kona when fit and healthy - and his 2014 season seems to be coming to the boil at just the right time. After no start in Kona last year followed by a DNF at Ironman Cozumel, his search for KPR points for 2014 wasn't looking to healthy at the beginning of the season. Sixth at Ironman Melbourne was solid, but no where near enough in terms of auto qualification, but in recent months a win at 70.3 Luxembourg, another at Ironman Canada and today at Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun / Salzburg means he will be lining up on the Big Island with confidence. From a spectators view, fingers crossed that the very likeable and hard biking Vanhoenacker is ready to go once again - his win today, of course, set up via a devastating bike split.

Austria's Eve Wutti made headlines last season with a blistering 8:37:36 (currently the seventh fastest iron-distance time in history) at Ironman Copenhagen, and then backed that up with another 'Sub-9' (and win) at Challenge Barcelona. She kept the home crowd happy today with a very clear win over the German pairing of Kristin Möller and Anja Beranek. It also meant she stepped up a place on the podium, having finished second to Eimear Mullan in 2013.

Ironman 70.3 Zell am See-Kaprun will host the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 2015.
