Last week we brought you details on the new Boardman Bikes Performance Series range, the 25 model line-up which will be available across the UK at Halfords, launched to the Press recently in London.

At the time we highlighted the imminent - and perhaps more exciting news for triathlon fans - launch of the new new AiR/TTE time trial / triathlon bike, described as their "flagship bike platform". That launch, of the bike Ironman World Champion Pete Jacobs will be hoping will assist him to defending his title this Saturday, took place yesterday (Wednesday) in Kona.

The AiR/TTE utilises an integrated handlebar and stem system to optimise airflow.

Both Chris Boardman and Pete Jacobs were on hand in Hawaii for the big launch. "Evolution is here" is the Baordman tag line, reflected in the name as the previously range topping AiR/TT gains an additional 'E' with this new model.

Of the new machine, Chris Boardman himself - who is R&D Director at Boardman Bikes, says

""The new AiR/TTE has a visible DNA link to its predecessor - the 2012 Ironman World Championship winning bike. The new model has evolved to include a fully internal front brake, internal cabling and fully integrated handlebar and stem system - there's not a cable, nut or bolt in sight. The mechanic friendly design boasts huge variation capabilities - with only two allen keys needed to make all the adjustments. The whole design process has been an emotional and full-on process of design, test, redefine, re-test and has involved a variety of new technologies never used in the cycling industry before. Developed from the >B56 Boardman R&D development centre with input from all of our Elite athletes at every stage of the evolution. The improved aerodynamics came through new laser body scanning technology and CFD design to produce improvements of over 20%."

Pete Jacobs is smiling - even Ironman World Champions can get excited by a new bike!

Prices are unknown - yet - but will follow in early November when Boardman conclude their 'launch season' with full details on their 2014 Elite Series range.
