Two dominant performances from Marino Vanhoenacker and Caroline Steffen gave them well earned wins at the Ironman European Championships in Frankfurt today.

Great Britain's Corinne Abraham surpassed her fourth place in Texas to take third in this P-4000 event, and will now - if she chooses - almost certainly have more than enough points to qualify for Kona.

On his win, Marino said:

"Today I had the opportunity show the people who have said that there hasn't been any competition in Austria over the last six years that I'm even better," Vanhoenacker just told the television interviewers. "Today I had a lot of doubts - the swim was incredibly fast, the bike was totally hard because of the weather and Sebastian Kienle was pushing so hard. It wasn't so nice that Sebastian pushed so hard during the first 20 km of the run."

Steffen was more than pleased to take her second consecutive Frankfurt title:

"These two Ironman victories give me a lot of confidence and motivation for my preparations for Kona... I look forward to going back there and trying to set last year’s record straight. The goal is the World Championship title."
