The British Cross Triathlon Championships take place this weekend at the Coniston Mountain Bike Triathlon.

While Alistair Brownlee racing Blenheim will capture headlines, an interesting name on the Coniston start list, we're reliably informed, is Tim Don.

Here is the British Triathlon preview on the event.

The British Cross Triathlon Championships are set to take place this weekend, with over 100 competitors all racing to win the coveted British titles at the Coniston Mountain Bike Triathlon on Sunday 10 June 2012.

The event is the fifth of eight British Age-Group Championships in 2012 and will see athletes race in the picturesque setting of the Coniston Lake in the heart of the English Lake District National Park.

The swim takes place from Coniston boating centre with athletes completing a 1,500m loop of the lake before embarking on a 28km mountain bike. The bike follows the roads away from the lake for about 3km of climbing to Lags Wood where the course joins Grizedale forest and the North Face trail. It takes in a full loop of this red graded trail, which is a mix of forest roads and purpose built single track. After a loop of the trail, the course takes the same route back to transition on the roads.

The 9km run course climbs the slopes of ‘The Old Man of Coniston’, stopping short of the top before transcending the contours of Walna Scar road. It then descends on the bridleway towards Bowmanstead, taking the footpath through Heathwaite before dropping back into Coniston.

Paul Drinkwater, Event Organiser commented: “To host the British Cross Triathlon Championships, will add an extra dimension to an already popular event for all the athletes competing. The event is set in the heart of the English Lake District National Park and will provide a beautiful course on challenging terrain for everyone who takes part. All the team here at UKMTBRTI are looking forward to welcoming the competitors and will do our upmost to ensure they have a memorable day.”

Ian Braid, British Triathlon Director for Major and National Events, added: “The British Cross Triathlon Championships will provide a fast and exciting race for both competitors and spectators. To take part in any of our British Age-Group Championships is always a memorable occasion for any athlete, and set within the picturesque setting of the English Lake District National Park, I am confident athletes will have a great experience of the growing discipline of cross triathlon.”

The event is organised by UKMTBTRI with more information available on Results will be available on
