Welcome to the newsletter

There are many great things to like about the sport of triathlon... ...and not all of them are made of carbon!

Variety is the spice of life they say, and variety is one thing that isn't lacking in the swim, bike, run arena. Events of all distances, types, locations and disciplines - there really is something for everyone in this sport. And when it comes to events, Tri247 is the undisputed leader when it comes to planning your year. Our legendary events calendar is the most comprehensive in the sport, constantly being updated to provide you with the ultimate event resource to plan your season.

With the growth of the sport comes the welcome addition of new events to the annual schedule alongside the regular favourites. As we had noticed so many interesting new events, we thought we would take a closer look at some of the most interesting ones in 2012. You can check it all out HERE. We've highlighted new events for every Home Nations region, alongside WTC, International, ETU and ITU events - a mammoth task comprising 17 individual articles.

We hope you enjoy it and that it perhaps gives you some suggestions to try something new in 2012.

Weekend action

It's almost a case of that classic police officer quote; "nothing to see here, move along please..." but we do have just a tiny bit of news from the weekend to brighten your morning.

As we figured in the preview there were no Brits involved in the Schwanden ITU Winter Triathlon European Cup so that one's a non-starter for news.

At the Romsey 5 Mile, organised in the grounds of the Broadlands Estate by Concept Sport, the still, cold and slightly damp conditions didn't seem to hamper the podium-topping trio from Southampton AC with Steven Phillips putting in a stormer of a run at 24:46. Jo Emery (Coventry Godiva) won the women's race in 28:47. Full results are HERE.

Much further west than Hampshire, the first of the traditional series of three aquathlons organised by Cerist Triathlon at the Bro Ddyfi Leisure centre in Machynlleth saw wins for Huw Brassington and Anita Saycell. Full results are HERE.

If you are looking forward to events later in the year you need to be aware that the Virgin Active London Triathlon ballot closes on the 31st January at 23:59. If you would like to be in with a chance of taking part in this year's event then click HERE and enter the ballot now!

If you haven't taken part before, or fancy a little reminder about what the event is all about then why not watch this video? It crams the whole two days at the event into just over a minute -- pretty cool!

And entries are open for Abu Dhabi and the UK Challenge (ww.ukchallenge.co.uk) if you want to stretch yourself a little more.

Click below for links to all the results from this weekend, and remember, where you see the triVIEWER icon, you can re-live your race in graphical simulation form!

Royles Zipp 404 deals

Royles have limited stocks of Zipp 404 clinchers (2011 edition) in both Shimano and Campagnolo variants at a special deal price of £1150. This represents a £750 (39%) saving on the RRP of £1900. At these prices we wouldn't expect them to hang around long - it's worth remembering that if they are out of the variant you need you can swap the freehubs and even with the cost of the new body it will still be a decent deal.
