Welcome to the newsletter

As 2009 draws to a close, and the racing season comes to a (brief) halt, it's a great time to look back on the season. How was your year? For the Great Britain elite it was a pretty good one, if our summary of their Gold, Silver and Bronze rush is anything to go by. Both Alistair and Chrissie (albeit, far too briefly given their achievements...) got a mention in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards. Alas, most of the country were watching X Factor anyway!

What about 2010? This year saw the launch of the Dextro Energy Triathlon - World Championship Series, including racing within the confines of Hyde Park, London, as the countdown to 2012 continues. Once again, racing will take place there again in 2010 over the weekend of July 24/25th 2010. Age group athletes will also be able to race (Sprint, or Olympic distances) in the park, and if you enter before 31st December 2009, you will benefit form a £10 'early bird' discount. Your Editor was in Hyde Park this year on both days, and there was a great atmosphere for all of the racing and we would imagine that things will only get better next year as the race develops and learning points are actioned. Take advanatge of the dicounted entry, and perhaps get yourslef an early Christmas present at

Weekend action

With no domestic multisport racing action (that we were aware of?) this past weekend, not too much to report this week!

One British triathlete who was racing was ITU World Triathlon Champion Alistair Brownlee, who in addition to a fleeting mention in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards, was in Ireland, representing Great Britain in the Under-23 category at the Spar European Cross Country Championships.

Despite reports to the contrary elsewhere, Alistair did actually finish the 8km event (48th of 75 finishers), and was the sixth and final GB finisher, in a race won by Noureddine Smaïl of France. Full results available HERE. The GB team took the silver medal behind the dominant French who finished 1/2/4 in the individual race.

Highlight of the day was the unexpected return from retirement and victory of Hayley Yelling in the senior ladies race. Her finishing smile may well be one of the best sights of 2009. As well as being the brother of former elite du/triathlete Martin Yelling, Hayley herself has done one or two duathlons during 2009 to keep her busy in her 'retirement'.

F3 Events in 2010

The 2010 F3 events are being added to the website in conjunction with, there are going to be some new and exciting events planned to challenge the experienced and the first timer.

F3 Events appreciate all comments and have been working hard to implement these for the 2010 season. They have now joined forces with StuWeb Timing systems for all their 2010 events whereby you will get all splits and times whilst the event is taking place via the large TV screen which will then be hosted on their site and once the event has finished.

They have also linked up with the charity Sparks to help raise awareness for such a worthy cause. Lookout for more updates and F3 Events hope to see you for the 2010 event season for guaranteed fun and frolics!
