Welcome to the newsletter
Yes, the Tri247 newsletter is back! The technical team have finally squashed the bug which was preventing us sending the emails out, our apologies for two weeks of radio 'silence'. The missing newsletters are now in the newsletter archive should you care to see what you missed.
The focus over the next couple of weeks is definitely on the TCR Show which will be taking place at Sandown Park on the weekend of the 9th and 10th of February. Tri247 is the official online partner for the event and we will be in attendance providing live updates from the show and hopefully capturing some more of our exclusive video interviews which were so popular last year.
This week we have just published the main online show guide and we'll have some news about key new products being launched. Also due on the site this week is a report from Steve Trew's recent training camp and Bob Holloway takes a look at ten things that define us as triathletes.
In this issue:
Saturday saw some quick racing at the first of Big Cow's Milton Keynes Winter Duathlon series and some even snappier results from Heartbeat. Winners in the duathlon were Scott Wiseman (Team MK) in 0:57:02 and Leigh Harvey (Shorter Rochford RT/Exclusive Ranges) in 1:04:40. Full results are available here and the next race at the Milton Keynes Bowl on February 23rd is already nearly full.
The first event in Concept Sport's 2008 season of racing was the Romsey Five Miler which was won by Jonathan Blackledge (Belgrave Harriers) in 0:24:28. The women's victory went to Karrie Blake (City of Portsmouth AC) in 0:29:39. A full set of results is here.
The second race in the Glentress Winter Duathlon Series saw wins for Andy Barlow in 0:44:52 and Ruth McGavigan in 0:54:57. Full results are here together with a short race report.
At the Tri2xL Swim Run Challenge in Loughborough the winners were Carl Shaw in a combined time of 0:24:28 and Helen Hanscombe in 0:30:58. The event is different to a conventional aquathlon in that the swim and run are separate events at different venues with both being run as pure time trials. The results are here but we have compiled them in a slightly different way to show the total times where Tri2xL award points for each part of the event.
Tri247 has places for L'Etape!!
In something of a coup, Tri247 has negotiated a block of 40 places at the 2008 L'Etape du Tour with the UK's official organisers, Sportstours. For those that don't know about it, L'Etape is an annual event where members of the public can ride an official Tour de France stage, complete with all the trimmings, a few days before the Tour itself gets there. It's definitely one of the 'must do' events for any dedicated cyclis and the 2008 stage is in the Pyrenees. It goes from the city of Pau and includes the monumental climb of the Col du Tourmalet (17.7km at 7.5%) before finishing on top of the Hautacam mountain, (14km with an average ascent of 7.2%) which towers above the pilgrim city of Lourdes.
The reserved Tri247 places are part of a three nights (Friday 4th to Monday 7th July) and is aimed at those people who have a limited amount of time to spend at the Etape du Tour. You'll be based at a hotel in Lourdes and will have bus transfers from the airport and to the start. For more information see this article on the Tri247 website. As part of the package, Tri247 will be providing a custom cycle top created for us by Impsport and a goody bag of nutrition from For Goodness Shakes.
