All change at the SpecSavers Ironman South Africa in Port Elizabeth today. A year ago I was there in person, conditions were close to perfect and Chrissie Wellington smashing her way to a blistering course record of 8:33:56.

Conditions today meant that time would have won overall in 2012.

For a while (for the men at least), the Tri247 prediction of a win for Andi Boecherer was looking on track. First out of a 'slow' swim, first off the bike with (almost) the fastest ride of the day and running strong. By 18km of the run, out of the race!

Step forward Clemente Alonso-McKernan (ESP), who produced a fine 2:46:15 marathon to finish seven minutes clear of Cyril Viennot (FRA). A top-10 finish from Great Britain's Craig Twigg who finished seventh after a superb ride in very challenging conditions.

Last year Kona legend Natascha Badmann (SUI) was a DNF at a race she has won three times before. Aged 45 now...and once again she's an Ironman winner. Another one for the Cheetah (her bike!) and that smile.

As with the men, a British seventh place finish for Outlaw Triathlon winner Catherine Faux, who was also the fastest Age Grouper of the day. That'll be (if she wants it?!) a Kona slot booked.
