![]() GB Triathletes at Great Manchester 10km Posted on: Sunday 15th May 2011 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend | Post A Comment The Great Manchester 10km last season saw triathlon gain some great mainstream live TV coverage through the superb performance of former World Triathlon, Duathlon and Aquathlon Champion Tim Don. In a race won by Ethiopian legend Haile Gebrselassie Tim record a fantastic 28:56 around the streets of Manchester. Tim wasn't racing (at least, not in Manchester...) today for the 2011 edition, but there was some triathlon interest. Once again it was a win for Gebrselassie, but a little further back was TriGold athlete Mark Buckingham (20th, 29:50) with World Junior Triathlon silver medal winner Tom Bishop 24th (29:58) and another TriGold athlete Matthew Gunby 33rd in 30:19. That was actually Tom's first 10km race, and is arguably the most significant result of the three as given his triathlon pedigree and results at junior level, it represents a move towards the sort of running level which could well see him challenging for one of the three places on the 2012 Olympic Triathlon team. Remember, Alistair Brownlee was GB's top finishir in Beijing aged 20, and Tom will have just turned 21 come the Hyde Park Olympic Games Triathlon. FULL RESULTS
