Several members of the GB World Class Development squad were in Chile this past weekend, for some very early season racing action at the Vina del Mar ITU Triathlon Pan American Cup.

With Olympic qualification points available - vital to ensure that Team GB is able to send a full compliment of three athletes to 2012 - the aim was to get some early scores on the board. On that basis, mission accomplished, with Aaron Harris taking the win, and two further podium positions through Matt Sharp and Abbie Thorrington (the sole British lady racing), who both finished second.

The British men made up five of the top ten finishers with Harris his achieving his best ITU result to date, his breakthrough performance at domestic level having been at win at the Parc Bryn Bach Elite Triathlon in 2009.

Also racing were Marc Jenkins (5th, 1:48:35), Harry Wiltshire (6th, 1:49:18), Adam Bowden (9th, 1:49:57) and Mark Threlfall (20th, 1:52:40).

The squad continue their South American travels next week at the La Paz ITU Triathlon Pan American Cup in Argentina, before finishing the following weekend at the Roatan ITU Triathlon Pan American Cup in Honduras.
