You really do need to be fast of the mark for some triathlon events these days. And that's just to get an entry.

Yesterday afternoon Pacesetter Events ( announced that entries were live for their annual Vitruvian Triathlon, the middle distance event based at Rutland Water, Leicestershire. The 2011 edition takes place on Saturday 3rd September next year.

The event is popular, very popular, as reflected in its mutli-award winning 'Race of the Year' status, having won that accolade in the annual 220 Awards for 2010, 2009 and 2008.

The 2010 edition filled in around 48 hours - and 2011 looks set to smash that. With over 100 entries in the first 10 minutes on Thursday, Race Director Mark Shaw confirms that there are now less than 200 spots remaining - and that number has probably reduced significantly in the time taken to type this - and the event looks set to be sold out today. If that is achieved before 2pm today, it will have taken less than 24 hours...

So, if you have the Vitruvian on your 2011 provisional schedule, you had better not wait to confirm your start.

Online entries available HERE.
