Great Britain's Emma Pooley this morning became Women's World Time Trial Champion at the World Road Championships in Geelong, Australia.

A silver medal winner at the Beijing Olympics in the same discipline, earlier this year Emma added the British Road Race Championship to her CV, beating Olympic Champion Nicole Cooke in the process. This was the first medal of any colour for a British women in the Time Trial discipline at the World Championships.

Emma does have a distinguished multisport background. The Windsor Triathlon age-group winner in 2005 was also World Duathlon Champ (20-24) in 2004 (Geel), National Duathlon Champion (20-24) in 2005, and National Long Distance Triathlon Champion (20-24) 2004 (Bala).

During this period Emma was a member of Cambridge Triathlon Club, and her PhD Supervisor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich was none other than fellow Cambridge Triathlon Club member, and British Triathlon Federation President Sarah Springman.
