The first event of a busy weekend of WTC Ironman events took place today in Texas: Ironman 70.3 Steelhead.

James Cotter (USA) lead out of the swim, and after a close race throughout the bike leg, secured the win with a 1:16 run to record his biggest win to date. Close behind were Josh Rix (AUS) and Matthew White (USA) - leaving the higher profile names of Michael Lovato and Jason Shortis behind them.

Kelly Williamson (USA), who recorded a third and second already this season at the highly competitive Rev3 races in the US, secured the win after a swim which left her more than five minutes ahead of super-bike Heather Jackson. Between the pair of them, former ITU World Champion and Hawaii Ironman winner Karen Smyers was showing that 49 years of age was no reason not to race as a pro!

As expected,Heather Jackson scorched the bike course but it wasn't enough to make up for her slow swim speed, as Williamson hit T2 first and then extended that to a three minute win. Karen Smyers - by just once second - secured the final podium spot.
