Bill Black, the legendary race commentator and coach, will be riding Legs of Steel this coming Saturday. Legs of Steel is a memorial ride for Dave Aitchison, who's untimely death shocked the triathlon world just under two years ago.

Bill will be riding the shorter course of 46km (nearly 30 miles) with Dave's dad Tony. To keep Dave's sense of humour alive Bill will bravely be riding in fancy dress on Jenny's (his wife) bike. Unfortunately Bill won't have the luxury of clipless pedals or cleats fitted, so he suggests that he may struggle on the five hills, or as he sees them, the five mountains.

Bill may need a little bit of motivation to get him around the course and to the finish-line (sometime on Saturday or Sunday), and would really appreciate your help by making donations to the following website: All proceeds will go to the Dave Aitchison SportsAid Fund, which has been set up to assist talented young triathletes in the London region to help them succeed in the sport.

Bill has promised to give us a report on how it went and also promises photos from the startline, not the finish-line though, as he says, "this may not be a pretty sight."

The team at Tri247 wish Bill and all those taking part a fun and safe ride.
