We've already mentioned the triathlon connection, and how Emma Pooley played a major part in the road race victory of Nicole Cooke on Sunday.

Well, today she's made headlines of her own by taking a fantastic silver medal in the ladies time trial. The event was won by American Kristen Armstrong (no relation to...), with Switzerland's Karin Thürig taking bronze - the same Thürig who won the the World Long Distance Duathlon Championships in both 2001 and 2002, Ironman Lanzarote winner in 2006 and top-10 Hawaii finisher...and we should of course mention that Kristin's sporting background was - pro triathlete! She did the Ironman World Champs in Kona, Hawaii in 1999, finishing in 10:47, and competed in the 2000 US Olympic Trials.

So, we'll chalk that up as another triathlon-ish triumph!

We mentioned previously that Emma was the Windsor age-group winner in 2005, but a little further digging shows that she was also World Duathlon Champ (20-24) in 2004 (Geel), National Duathlon Champion (20-24) in 2005, and National Long Distance Triathlon Champion (20-24) 2004 (Bala).

So, perhaps the London 2012 cycling team are in a tri-club near you...
