Bahrain #3It's the eve of race day for Alice Hector (www.alicetri.com), as the British long distance Pro gets ready to race Ironman 70.3 Bahrain, the Middle East Championship, tomorrow (Saturday). After 'Alice get lost' and 'Alice makes friends', part three of her countdown is, naturally, 'Alice get ready'...to RACE! Day 3: Friday. T minus 1 dayAlice Gets Ready...Today we bussed it to the F1 circuit to pick up our packs. I do find it an odd phenomena that at a local half ironman you can rock up to it an hour before the start and be done with it in half a day, but that these ones take the best part of a week! It's looking like it will be windy (will have to hold on tight to my front 808!), not too hot - around 18 degrees - and the water is clear with big bright bouys making for easy sighting. What has proved quite complicated pre-race prep should evolve into a great race day. Faff over and done with, and quite a long multi-storey transition one to inspect, we were racked at ready to go by 4pm. Transition the day before is always quite cool to have a quick nosey about in. There is a lot of bling! We especially liked the Prince of Bahrain's custom bike. As for me, I'm feeling ok. Things have loosened off that were tight after the flight thanks to my odd-looking but extremely effective 'moves' that the Drummond Clinic prescribe as ritual, and I managed to stay well hydrated and eat regularly through the day. Let's see what tomorrow brings. There are a lot of British pro women racing (although I hear sadly Jodie Cunanama is a late withdraw due to illness), and we have Stu Hayes going for the men. With pay going through to the top 10 this time, it could well be a tightly fought tussle all the way through the field. ![]()
