Course amendments announced for IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire from 2018

2017 represents final chance to for a finish at Shugborough Estate

It's been a hugely popular event since starting just two years ago, but 2017 will represent your final opportunity to finish under the current course with confirmation that the run course will have a new venue from 2018. Here is the full announcement.

IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire Finale at Shugborough

Competitors, communities and local businesses are set to join in an IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire finale at Shugborough next summer – as the event’s finishing line moves to a new home in 2018.

The good news is that there is still time to book your place in history and experience racing at the stunning setting of Shugborough for the last time. Since its inauguration in 2015, IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire has quickly become a firm favourite and fastest selling event on the IRONMAN UK calendar.

Mark Winnington Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, said: “Staffordshire as a county provides a spectacular backdrop for the event and nowhere more so than the Shugborough Estate.

While Ironman will be continuing in the county, this will be the last chance for people to sign up to cross the finishing line at Shugborough on June 18.

The event is great for highlighting what a fantastic county we all live and work in and I am sure people will be showing their support once again this year.”

This year the event will see over 2,000 competitors complete a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike and 13.1 mile half marathon, starting at Chasewater, passing through Cannock Chase before culminating at the historic estate.

Staffordshire County Council became custodians of the estate in 1966, but on November 1 this year returned the management of the estate to the National Trust.

As the Trust wishes to focus on conservation of the estate and parklands, this is the last year to see Shugborough incorporated in the event and a new venue for the run element of the course is now being looked at.

Kevin Stewart, Managing Director of Ironman UK said “We have appreciated the opportunity to launch a new event with Shugborough Estate as a backdrop and we know athletes have enjoyed this quintessentially English setting. The National Trust has its criteria in managing the sustainability of the Estate and we look forward to establishing a new home for the event in Staffordshire.
