Winner in 2011 and 2012 and second last year, Cave has conistently been able to race well shortly after her efforts at the IRONMAN World Championships just prior. Once again, she produced another strong performance to take third place this time around. Cave was at the head of the race for much of the day with eventual winner, Ellie Salthouse (AUS), as the pair broke away on the bike to reach T2 in close contention. The Aussie was able to stretch her lead over the second half of the run, while Jennifer Spieldenner (USA) gained three and a half minutes on Cave over the 13.1 miles to snatch second place by less than a minute. Corinne Abraham was 10th (4:34:05) in one of her first races for many months (possibly first of 2016?).
The men's race was dominated on the bike by former IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion Terenzo Bozzone (NZL). Reaching T2 with a five minute lead over all but Ben Collins (USA), a strong run left him with a comfortable winning margin of over two and a half minutes. Interesting to note the addition of familiar ITU names of Franz Loeschke (GER) and Sven Riederer (SUI) in third and fifth respectively. IRONMAN 70.3 Miami, Sunday 23rd October 2016
