![]() Sharp impresses at Great South Run Posted on: Monday 24th October 2016 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend | Post A Comment Triathlete Matt Sharp impresses at the Great South RunA regular on the British Triathlon Elite team for many years, Matthew Sharp produced one of the best runs of his career on Sunday when taking third place at the Great South Run in Portsmouth. He produced a swift time of 48:18 at the event which also doubled as the England Athletics 10-Mile Championships. He finished just nine seconds behind Andy Vernon, winner of last week's Great Birmingham Run, and European 10,000m Silver medallist in 2014. No stranger to swift run times, Sharp has previously come close to breaking the 65 minute mark over the half marathon at the Bath Half Marathon (65:13, 2014) and the Great North Run (65:03, 2014). That - to to me - suggests that he is in even better running form than he was at those events, his Portsmouth time suggesting he is currently in low 1:04 half marathon fitness.
The World Under-23 Triathlon Champion in 2011, Sharp finished 26th this year at the World Triathlon Series Yokohama event, as well as winning an ETU Triathlon European Cup event in Spain.
