Another IRONMAN title - victory #15 - for Marino Vanhoenacker in Chattanooga

In January this year I sat down with Belgian Ironman superstar Marino Vanhoenacker at Sands Beach, Lanzarote, to interview the legend about his career, his success at Ironman Austria and what was left for him to achieve in his career. The primary motivation from that converstaion was crystal clear:

"I still want to win races. For me, that is the most important thing. When I see other athletes on camps I still feel that I'm a whole lot more motivated than they are, even the young kids, which makes my life easier I guess! I still think about triathlon the same as when I entered the sport, I'm still hungry."

Well, since then Marino has continued to deliver. Having had to withdraw from Ironman New Zealand earlier in the year - which ended (well, delayed...) his attempt to become the first athlete to win an Ironman on each continent, he has bounced back in fine style. Winning Ironman Chattanooga on Sunday meant two consecutive years with two Ironman titles, and a C.V. which now features 15 Ironman career victories. He has won at least one Ironman in 11 of the last 12 seasons - injury impacting his 2013 season:
