![]() Alistair Brownlee talks Aquathlon Posted on: Wednesday 14th September 2016 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend | Post A Comment Another Aquathlon for Alistair Brownlee? "never say never... but I'm not in a rush!"After winning the ITU Aquathlon World Championships in Cozumel, Mexico today, Alistair Brownlee spoke after the race about his experience. One he's not sure he wants to repeat! Related Article: Alistair Brownlee cruises to Aquathlon World Champs GoldWas it your first Aquathlon event? "I think it's my first ever one - it's defenitely my first ever run-swim-run. I just wanted to do something different as a bit of training. I enjoyed it and it's hard, really hard. It's so hot here and diving in trying to swim after running is tough" With Richard Varga you know the swim is going to be full on, so how do you work out how hard to push the first run? "I didn't really know what I was doing or he was doing! Those other guys went off really hard on the first run and so I thought I'd better go with it, and as soon as I dived into the water I felt terrible! "After the first run Richard was about 30 seconds behind me, and so I thought that's it, I'll probably not see him again... and then he came straight past me at about three-quarters into the swim, I recognised his stroke and everything, and I though, 'eh up, here he is!', and then thought just get on his feet until the last run, but it was really tough."
What did you have left on the last lap? It was weird. It's not like I was tired, I felt like I was in oxygen debt form the first kilometre of that first run and never quite recovered! I was just not feeling very good. Would you do another one, or now that you've won one, is that it? "Maybe...never say never... but I'm not in a rush!"
