Time Trial Champion launches Team Bottrill

"This has always been a dream of mine" says multiple National Champion on an emotional day

Last Friday I took a trip up to visit Giant Bikes HQ in Leicestershire to meet Matt Bottrill at the launch of Team Bottrill.

The performance aspect of the team is headed up by a small group of elite domestic time trial riders including National 100-mile champion Charles Taylor, but the team is exclusively open to all coached riders of Matt Bottrill Performance Coaching and Bob Tobin of CyclePowerMeters. The launch saw a large group of team members happily collecting their new colours.

While primarily cycling based, members include Kona qualifying triathletes and World Age-Group Champions amongst several tri/duathletes who have been developing their cycling abilities. I also spoke to former England Rugby Union international Austin Healey who was present for the launch, another sportsman who has seriously got the cycling bug under Matt's guidance.

Of course, Matt himself started his new (multisport) career the following day, winning his Age-Group and finishing sixth overall at the Dambuster Duathlon.

Speaking at the launch, Matt said:

"I'm actually quite emotional. It has always been my dream to have my own team and to see it all come together today, I can't thank everyone enough.

"I always said that if I won the lottery, setting up my own team would be what I'd do. Alas, I didn't win the lottery... but this is just the same for me.

"I believe that everyone can improve. Not everyone can go on to become a National Champion, but everyone can progress - and this team is a platform for that. We'll put the same passion into the team and the riders as I do to my own performances.

"When I met Bob [Ed. Bob Tobin, Matt's cycling coach] and Simon [Ed. Simon Smart of Drag2Zero], that really changed my whole cycling career and having learned from that, that's the approach I put into Matt Bottrill Performance Coaching.

"I have to say a massive thanks to Pedal Cover ( and HSS Hire ( plus Giant of course, who have supported me personally so well for the past four years and hosting us here today."
