Triathletes at the English National Cross Country Championships 2016

As regulars readers will know, we do like to keep an eye on events outside of the swim/bike/run world, in part to be inspired by (and reminded of), the quality of athletes in some of the single sport disciplines, but also to see how some familiar multisport names do when competing outside of their own comfort zone.

Castle Donnington today (Saturday) hosted the English National Cross Country Championships, always one of the most conpetitive and prestigious cross country events of the season. Results are still coming in (and we'll be adding to those highlighted below, if/when we spot any errors or additions), but here are are a few familiar names we spotted.

While he's been out of the triathlon world for a while now, second placed in the Senior Men's race, Adam Hickey was once a very promising Elite triathlete on the GB team as well as a multiple winner of the Mini-Marathon event at the London Marathon. Fantastic to see his development as a runner, which includes a 13:41.66 for 5000m on the track in 2013.

First (active) multisport athlete home, we think, was former Junior and Under-23 Duathlon World Champion Richard Horton in 12th position, just seven seconds ahead of Carl Avery, World AG Duathlon Champion (25-29) for the last two years. Others we spotted on the first page of the results sheet are Philip Wylie, Daniel Jenkin, Andrew Greenleaf and Danny Russell.

Apologies if we've missed anyone else, but Emma Holt - World Aquathlon and Sprint Triathlon Champion in 2013 (25-25) - in 22nd position, is the first 'triathlete' name that we recognise.
