News just in from British Triathlon, that the British Triathlon Super Series will not take place in 2016.

We know from speaking to British Triathlon in recent months that a lot of work and planning had gone on behind the scenes for some significant and innovative changes for this season, but we suspect that time has run out to get those fully implemented. That appears to be reflected in the full statement - below - which indicates it will "take a year out to refresh the current product, review racing formats and maximise media opportunities to ensure a compelling long term race series for British and International elite athletes."

The events that have formed the basis of the series in recent years (Windsor Triathlon, London Triathlon, Blenheim Palace Triathlon and Tri Liverpool), are being held once again, but there will be no link up in terms of points / prize money bonuses.

British Triathlon Super Series 2016 Statement

The British Triathlon Super Series, which began in partnership with Human Race's Windsor Triathlon, the London Triathlon and the Blenheim Palace Triathlon, in 2008, will not take place in 2016.

After eight successful years the Super Series is to take a year out to refresh the current product, review racing formats and maximise media opportunities to ensure a compelling long term race series for British and International elite athletes.

2016 is a huge year for British Triathlon with the Columbia Threadneedle World Triathlon Leeds, the Olympics, Paralympics and continued expansion of Go Tri. The new ideas we are testing in our 2016 events programme will be incorporated into this new series in 2017.

Domestic senior elite triathlon competition opportunities shall continue to be available at the London Triathlon, the Blenheim Palace Triathlon, the Windsor Triathlon and Tri Liverpool, with the latter playing host to the British Elite Triathlon Championships televised on Channel 4. Please contact the individual event organisers for details.
