Following a very busy month in October, which included bucket loads of events including the awesome GB results from the Ironman World Championships in Kona and the World Duathlon Championships in Australia, November was (finally!), a much quieter month in the multisport world in the UK. While the racing (volume) may have fallen, we still continue with our ERDINGER Athlete of the Month for November 2015! As we've said from the outset, picking a winner for this award can be based upon a range of factors including (but not limited to!):
A quieter month gives us an opportunity to reflect on these elements in making our choices - while still selecting a very worthy recipient of our recognition. With December a quiet month on the racing front too, get your thinking caps on now for who you would like to see recognised for their efforts and contribution for next months award. Take a look at our winners so far this year for further inspiration and then do get in touch. Please do continue to keep you nominations coming in through the year, it really is appreciated and they are all reviewed. Read on to find out this months winner... 2015 Winners so far...
This months winner has been performing at an exceptional level in the run-bike-run discipline of duathlon for several years now. Now a veteran, he was racing again, and winning - overall - this month, and despite the supposed off-season, is still racing and performing exceptionally on an almost weekly basis. NOVEMBER 2015: ALAN MURCHISONAlan Murchison is - we suspect - the first Michelin-starred chef to win our Athlete of the Month Award! While his recognition here is for events over several years, Alan was also busy racing and performing in November as well. A duathlon specialist (though rumours are he has been learning to swim too...), Alan raced at the competitive Chilly Duathlon at Castle Combe circuit on 22nd November, taking the overall win by just three seconds from Luke Pollard. Like a good multisport athlete at this time of year, Alan has also been busy in other individual disciplines including veteran wins in the Hampshire XC League and a 33:39 (for another V40 win), at the Brooks Brighton 10km. Alan has been one of the most successful members of the British Triathlon Age-Group team in recent years. This year he added Gold medals at the ETU European Championships at both Sprint (for the third consecutive year), and Long Distance - he now has six Gold medals from six ITU/ETU Champs over the past three seasons. He also won the London Duathlon in September. Alan Murchison - GB Age-Group Results 2013 to 2015
As well as his multisport and running events, Alan has also enlisted the help of Matt Bottrill in coaching his time-trialling this year. Among some impressive times recorded during the year, Alan went under 20-minutes for 10-miles, with a 19:42 clocking at the VTTA National Championships. A fine performance in its own right, it also provided a very interesting statistic. Having broken 30 minutes for 10km running 'back in the day', Alan is in what must be a very small club of individuals who have broken 30 minutes for 10km running and 20 minutes for 10-miles cycling. That is very impressive. For all of those reasons, we are delighted to make Alan Murchison our ERDINGER Alkoholfrei AOTM for November 2015. Alan will also receive these great prizes courtesy of ERDINGER Alkoholfrei:
