We select a few highlights from the Boardman Bikes 2016 range launch

Following the launch of the 2016 range and the new brand identity and vision for Boardman Bikes (, let's take a look at some of the highlights from the range.

Colours - Custom Elite

As mentioned on the separate launch article, a new addition for Boardman is their Custom Elite program ( You can select from six frame types - the ATT, CXR, SLR Endurance (in disc or rim brakes), SLR Race or TTE framesets - and then select your preference of primary colour, secondary colour, branding colour and whether you want matt lacquer or high-gloss finish, delivered to your home within six weeks. The premium over the standard off the peg frame and colour is £300.

Signature Range

The "best of the best" bikes across the range are now called the Signature Series. These will be limited in edition - but very premium in terms of price. If you are looking for the best and have the cheque book to match, here's a look at what you can buy.

TTE Signature

Boardman Bikes 2016

The TTE frame was launched at Kona two years ago (which we covered at the time) and is Boardman's "fastest ever bike", improved from the 2016 range with the addition of the AST technology. A hefty £9,000 (ok, £8,999.99...) gets your the TTE frameset, Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, Enve SES 8.9 clinchers wheelset, ISM Adamo TT saddle and the Boardman integrated carbon cockpit. I'm guessing you'll likely still want to be adding a power meter too, so not one for you if you are on a budget.

AIR Signature

The AIR Signature is the top of the tree edition of Boardman's aero road platform, the frameset ridden by the Brownlee brothers. This £8,499.99 edition comes with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, Enve SES 6.7 carbon clinchers and Enve finishing kit.

Also picture below are the SLR Endurance Signature and SLR Race Signature (both £8,499.99) from the Super-Light Road range. Both come in at or under the UCI's 6.8kg minimum weight limit.

ATT Range

If - like most - your budget doesn't quite stretch to the Signature Series, and you are looking for a new triathlon / TT bike, than perhaps the ATT range will be more to your taste? Pete Jacobs won Kona in 2012 on the first generation of this frame so while it may now sit a rung down from the range-topping TTE, it has proven history - and has been improved on since then.

There are three models ATT 9.0, ATT 9.2 and ATT 9.4 at £2,299.99, £2,799.99 and £3,599.99 respectively. Of note is that the 9.2 and 9.4 both include the same integrated T9 fork and brake that is used on the TTE, plus the Aerodynamic Surface Trip treatment (mentioned HERE).

This mid-range ATT 9.2 (pictured below) comes in priced at £2,799.99 including Shimano Ultegra shifting, Zipp Vuka Alumina cockpit, ISM Adamo saddle and Boardman Air Elite Five (35mm) aero profile wheels. If you don't want to go electronic (the 9.4 comes with Ultegra Di2 at £3,599.99), and perhaps already have your top range aero wheels, that could be a solid choice. The frameset alone costs £1,799.99.

TTE Range

While we've covered the range topping Signature edition above, how do you get the TTE platform at a significantly lower price?

The TTE 9.2 comes in priced at £3,999.99 featuring a similar spec as the ATT 9.2 above, with Shimano Ultegra (mechanical) and Boardman Air Elite Five (35mm) aero wheels. For £5,499.99 you can step up to the Ultegra Di2 equipped TTE 9.8 which also includes Boardman Air Elite Nine (80mm rear, 55 front) carbon clinchers.

AIR Range - Aerodynamic Road

The AIR has been the bike of the Brownlee brothers in recent years, and with the introduction of draft-legal racing to the Age Groups at the Sprint distance for the ITU World Champs in 2016, the aero road bike should further increase in popularity within triathlon.

The AIR 9.0 is priced at £2,199.99 and comes with Shimano Ultegra and an FSA Gossamer Pro crank - an upgrade over the previous edition bike and at the same price. The AIR 9.2 rides to £2,799.99 but moves from Ultegra to Dura-Ace and an SLK carbon crankset. Once you move up to the AIR 9.4 you gain the integrated T9 fork, Ultegra Di2 and upgraded Boardman Air Elite Seven carbon clinchers (45mm / 55mm) - priced at £3,999.99.

An interesting edition is the AIR 9.9 - as Boardman become one of the first brands to specify the Sram Red eTap electronic groupset on a bike. Adding Zipp Firecrest wheels and a Zipp finishing kit, that all adds up to a not insignificant £6,499.99.

Titanium - SLR Endurance

An interesting and surprising addition to the Boardman fleet from the launch was the addition of two titanium models, the SLR Titanium 9.2 (£3,499.99) and SLR Titanium 9.4 (£4,999.99), both with carbon fork.

Both come with disc brakes, built around Boardman's Endurance road platform. Of these bikes, Boardman say "The properties of Titanium fit with the ride characteristics required in an Endurance bike excellently and when designed correctly and incorporating the latest technology like disc brakes and Di2, can be built into the ultimate Endurance machine."

Treat it well and this hand painted frame should be good for many, many years of use given the nature of titanium's resistance to corrosion and damage. It would also make you stand out from the (carbon) crowd.
