No more 'Challenge' in Weymouth...?

When the event updated its Facebook and Twitter accounts to 'Tri Weymouth' earlier this week, the external signs were there... the future of Challenge Weymouth is no longer as part of the Challenge Family series of races it would seem.

Formal confirmation of that has just arrived - reproduced in full below - with news of "a restructuring of its UK operations with the five-year contract with its founding partner in the UK, Just Racing, coming to an end."

No doubt clarity will arrive sooner rather than later, but alongside the newly announced Challenge Galway next year, "details of additional (Challenge) UK races to be announced shortly" are promised.

So what's next for Weymouth? We'll try and find that out for you, but we wonder if could be (another) case of Deja Vu...

Challenge Family has confirmed a restructuring of its UK operations with the five-year contract with its founding partner in the UK, Just Racing, coming to an end. Over the past five years Challenge experienced continued growth and success at two separate locations. The 2011 - 2013 events were based at Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, which culminated in winning the ‘Beyond Going Long’ triathlon event of the year in 2013. The last two years, 2014 - 2015 have seen the event continue to succeed at Challenge Weymouth, Dorset delivering the successful ETU European Long Distance Championships earlier this month.

Alan Rose, managing director of Just Racing said, “We have loved being part of the Challenge Family and I am really proud to have helped establish and develop Challenge Family triathlon in the UK. We wish the Challenge Family all the best for the future”.

Zibi Szlufcik, CEO, Challenge Family added, “Alan has been a superb partner and instrumental in producing great Challenge UK events for the past five years. We wish Alan continued success and appreciate all he has done for the Challenge Family.”

Challenge Family will continue in the UK and Ireland with the full distance Challenge Galway on 26 June 2016 , together with its 14 races throughout Europe, with details of additional UK races to be announced shortly.
