Tri247's Athlete of the Month supported by ERDINGER Alkoholfrei

I think we should start the announcement of our ERDINGER Athlete of the Month for May 2015 with an apology... to the huge number of athletes who would be very worthy winners, that we've been unable to recognise this month!

Seriously, we have received our biggest haul to date of emails, nominations, recommendations and suggestions for the AOTM award this month. A big thank you for highlighting such a wide variety of amazing performances and results, it has been very difficult selecting just one winner, and we suspect we'll be seeing more great performances from many of those who we couldn't choose this time as the season continues - so their time may well come for recognition later in the year! Please do continue to keep you nominations coming in through the year.

2015 Winners so far...

As mentioned, selecting our ERDINGER Alkoholfrei Athlete of the Month for May has been a very difficult task - but we have finally chosen an athlete who has had "one of my most successful months of racing since starting the sport", a run of form which has seen him win three National Championships in May...

Sam's first big race in May was the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Student Championships over the Sprint distance. After finishing third in the event two years ago, Sam was able to step up two places on the podium this time around, winning by almost a minute, ahead of twice World Duathlon Champion (Junior and U23), Richard Horton and recent Blenheim Triathlon Elite winner Chris Perham in what was a very competitive field.

A week later and next up was the British Sprint Triathlon Championships at St. Neots, where after tough competition from Carl Shaw (Racetime Events), Sam secured a narrow victory and his first British Age Group Championship.

The 31st May saw the next BUCS Championship event of the year, this time over the Standard distance held at Barton Marina, where Sam was aiming to go for the BUCS double. After a tough swim and bike in challenging conditions, a 31:43 10km run split saw him take the title by just under a minute.

We're delighted to make Sam our ERDINGER Alkoholfrei AOTM and look forward to following his progress in the future. Sam will also receive these great prizes courtesy of ERDINGER

  • A months supply of ERDINGER Alkoholfrei
  • 1 x ERDINGER Rucksack
  • 1 x Shift Shirt (Training shirt)
  • 1 x Sunvisor
  • 2 x Water Bottles

Help us find the Athlete of the Month for June! - #AOTM

We want YOU to help us identify an Athlete of the Month candidate each month through 2015!

Perhaps you have got a friend, rival or club-mate who you feels deserves recognition for their efforts - as well as some tasty bottles of ERDINGER Alkoholfrei plus some great prizes? The criteria is up to you - they may be the fastest, have recovered from injury, have sacrificed their own performances from others, shown consistency... anything you think is worthy of recognition!

How can I nominate someone?

Simple - two really easy options:

  • Simply email [email protected] with who you would like to see recognised and a brief note on why, or,
  • If you are on Twitter, use the hastag #AOTM and tweet us @tri247 and let us know when you have seen a noteworthy performance, or have someone you would like us to recognise!
