The 2015 edition of the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco came down to a sprint finish for the male professionals, which saw first timer at the event Eric Lagerstrom (USA) side-by-side in the finish straight former Ironman 70.3 World Champion and one of the icons of this event, six-time winner Andy Potts. That lack of experience didn't prove to be an issue for the young American, who finished 12th in the ITU World Cup race in Chengdu earlier this season, as he dug deep to take significant victory.

“I have been racing since I was 12-years-old and this race has always been a bucket list race for me,” said 25-year-old 2015 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon Winner Eric Lagerstorm. “This is a dream come true to win the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon my first time competing. This course with the swim from Alcatraz Island and the deep sand run with sand steps was like nothing I have ever experienced before. Running down the finish line neck and neck with six-time Champion Andy Potts and the thousands of spectators cheering was so cool.”

Building upon her recent first podium finish on the ITU World Triathlon Series in Yokohama, it was Australian Ashleigh Gentle who took the women's title, 15 seconds clear of Lauren Goss (USA), with three-time Ironman World Champion Mirinda Carfrae in third. Having lead at T2, Great Britain's Leanda Cave took fourth just a few weeks after her second place at Ironman Texas.
