Road closure announced for first ever Cardiff Triathlon

Today it has been announced that the first ever Cardiff Triathlon will now feature a CLOSED ROAD cycle leg for both the olympic and sprint distance races.

The Cardiff Triathlon will be held on Sunday 28th June 2015 and is already set to bring in over 1500 athletes to the vibrant Welsh capital. There are now just 300 entries remaining in the event and you can book your place by clicking HERE.

The race capitalises on the beauty of the local area, starting with a swim in the legendary Cardiff Bay. The new closed road cycle section takes competitors on a flat and exciting traffic free route through Cardiff before the race finishes with a stunning run out to the Cardiff Bay Barrage. The Event Village and transition zone will be held on Roald Dahl Plass in front of the iconic Wales Millenium Centre.

The Cardiff Triathlon will host both an Olympic distance (1500m/40km/10km) and a Sprint distance (750m/20km/5km) making it the perfect race for competitors of all abilities.

The Cardiff Triathlon will be the fifth triathlon in the Always Aim High Events portfolio, which includes the infamous North Wales Slateman, Sandman and Snowman trilogy.

Event planner and Always Aim High Events Director, Nigel Kendrick, is very excited about what a fantastic addition the closed road will be to the Cardiff Triathlon and what an incredible showcase the event will be for the area. He said:

“Having a closed road, traffic free cycle route at the Cardiff Triathlon is a massive boost for the event. We have always said that the Cardiff Triathlon has the makings of being one of the best tris in the UK and the closed road is another reason why.

"As a proud Welsh company, when setting an event, the location is the most important consideration for us and Cardiff Bay could not be a more iconic setting for a triathlon. The course is absolutely beautiful and with an Olympic and Sprint distance available we hope to see people of all abilities on the start line.

"We would live to say a big thank you to the Major Events Unit of the Welsh Government, City of Cardiff Council, Cardiff Harbour Authority, Welsh Triathlon and Cardiff Triathlon Club for all their support for this event."

As well as a fantastic day of racing, Always Aim High Events have promised there will be masses to see and do to keep the spectators entertained. Always Aim High Events Manager, Rob Samuel, added:

“The Event Village at Roald Dahl Plass will be crammed with live music, childrens entertainment and plenty to see and do. Above all, there will be a race to remember and we look forward to giving you our famous Always Aim High welcome this June!”

The Cardiff Triathlon has a limited number of Elite places available. Please email info@alwaysaimhighevents with your triathlon C.V. if you would like to be considered for an elite entry.
