Having won a place through Chain Reaction Cycles and TYR Open Water Swim competition, six keen swimmers of varying ages and abilities joined together on 2nd May at Surrey Sports Park, Surrey University to begin their five Week challenge.

With 25 years of open water swimming and triathlon experience and as a current Tribal Triathlon coach, Richard Smith was on hand to welcome each swimmer and provide them with everything they'll need for the day and the upcoming weeks.

Eager to get started with the group and after a short introduction, Richard and his new swim team were straight to work.

The first swim and coaching session started with Richard working with the swimmers on their stroke technique and timed swim. As no two swimmers had the same technique, Richard closely monitored everyone individually through a range of swim tests.

Using a Go Pro Richard then filmed a 200m front crawl from each swimmer and over lunch analysed the footage to give each member of the group helpful tips on how they could improve.

After receiving their stroke analysis and having been fitted for wetsuits, the swimmers were keen to get back into the pool with this new found knowledge to begin the final part of their session.

After a busy afternoon, the swimmers left with some great knowledge and advice from Richard, as well as being very excited to receive their personalised plan.

With each swimmers goals and ability in mind, Richard will be making a tailored 5 week swim development plan so each swimmer is given clear guidance on how they should be training in the lead up to the final session in June which is in open water.

We'll be keeping you up to date of how the swimmers are getting on, with weekly updates from them as they outline how well they've been training each week.
