It was raining cats and dogs (heavily) at this year's Lezyne Steyning Triathlon. It was without doubt the wettest triathlon held in this picturesque market town, only surpassed by the notorious snow event here in 2008.

Mary Campbell from Chichester Westgate Tri Club made it three wins in successive years to take the standard distance title in 1:53:56. Second place went to Kathryn Parkin from East Grinstead Tri Club and third went to local triathlete Moyra Amess from Steyning AC in 2:03:03 and 2:04:59 respectively. Brighton Phoenix's John Tindell was consistent throughout the race to win in 1:41:52 and clocking the fastest 8km run of the day in 31:37. Brighton Tri Club super-vet Simon Taylor had a great race and was 2nd overall in 1:45:17 almost two minutes ahead of his younger club mate Thomas Garner.

As is customary at all REP events, Malcolm Hughes from Brighton Phoenix made the podium for the super-vet category in 1:48:54. Dominic Paul (Brighton Tri Club) won the Vet category in 1:47:38. Nicole Patterson-Lett from Tuff Fitty Tri Club was 4th female overall and first vet in 2:05:08 and just along the coast at Brighton Debbie Evers took the super-vet title in 2:16:34.

Chichester Westgate Tri Club also took the honours in the sprint race with top junior Harry Leleu just beating fellow junior David Pearson from Whitgift School Triathlon by 27 seconds to win the sprint triathlon in 52:15. Pearson's prowess was on the bike where he was the fastest on the day and Leleu had the fastest swim and second fastest run. Mark Furth from Team T.H.E was third in 53:58 and in the women's race clubmate Rachel Willmott made it two wins on the bounce by totally dominating the women's field with an impressive time of 58:01 for 8th overall. Second place went to Sarah Harris from Horsham Amphibians Tri in 1:05:31 and third to Veteran Micaela Floyd from Tuff Fitty in 1:06:13. Brighton Tri Club Xenia Parsons took the Vet category prize in 1:10:30 and the super-vet category went to Karen McGrath from Tuff Fitty in 1:11:40. First junior was Libby Nash from Horsham Amphibians Tri with a time of 1:13:06. Rory Bryan (Royal Navy Tri) and Steve Wigmore (Horsham Amphibians Tri) won the vet and super-vet categories respectively. James Outen was first youth.

A special mention goes to Carol Killick from Steyning AC who's now in her 70s and still competing with a great time of 1:21:20.

In the relay race Team Physio, Fitness & Wellbeing won convincingly in 1:36:40 with their team of Natasha Rabinowitz (swim 12:07), Andy Robinson (bike 55:15) and Neil Boniface (run 28:26).

Raw Energy Pursuits' next event is the Arundel Lido Triathlon on Sunday 24th May 2015.
