I had the pleasure of being at Sunday's second edition of the Cannes International Triathlon in the South of France, an event which attracted around 1500 athletes this year and looks set to grow further in years to come and surely develop as one of the premier and iconic events of the early European season.

The event included two distances, the 'Long' comprising of 2km / 80km / 16km, which attracted a top international professional field and was won by Giulio Molinari (ITA) and Leanda Cave (GBR), and the 'Medium' (1km / 40km / 8km) which I took part it. More insight from my race and the whole Cannes experience later in the week, but to give you a flavour of the event and perhaps put some early thoughts into your head for your own 2016 season planning (and I would highly recommend it), here are some superb images of the Long distance, courtesy of T.Deketelaere/Triathlète Mag.

France's Frederic Belaubre, three times European Champion and with two top ten Olympic Games finishes headed the swim alongside eventual winner Giulio Molinari and 2008 Olympic Champion Jan Frodeno.

Italy's Giulio Molinari made his intentions clear from the start on the bike, and built up a race winning lead around the hills of Cannes.

France's Uplace-BMC Pro Triathlon Team member Romain Guillaume couldn't keep made with the flying Italian, but he was the second athlete to reach T2.

An ambassador for the race, Canadian Jenny Fletcher took part in the fashion show on Saturday before finishing seventh placed professional on Sunday.

While he gave back several minutes on the run course to Jan Frodeno and Sebastian Kienle, Molinari ran strongly throughout and never looked like giving up the lead he had worked so hard for on the bike.

As always, Jan Frodeno looked great on the run, but was still 90 seconds short on catching Giulio Molinari.
