It was just under 30 years ago (7th July 1985) that 117 people gathered at the new Sevenoaks Leisure Centre to take part in the first Sevenoaks Triathlon. Fast forward to 19th April 2015 when the 41st race took place with 385 competitors. The chip timing, specially struck medals, instant web results and social media interaction was a clear difference between the two races but the friendly enthusiasm and fierce competition was exactly the same. There were three competitors that raced in 1985 who were also here again in 2015!

This year's race brought chilly but mercifully dry conditions as 7Oaks Tri Club founder member Robin Marchant was the first swim starter at 6.32am. The well-oiled machine of the race that sells out in an hour hummed along nicely until the last swimmers hit the water at 10.15am. The transition area hummed with the expectant buzz of experienced athletes mixing it up with a large contingent of first timers.

Race sponsors were well represented throughout the field as were the 'Evergreens' – these are the multiple finishers of 7Oaks events that are rewarded with priority entry. Every finisher was rewarded with a great specially struck medal and the (free to download) finish line photos will be keenly awaited.

It appears that the winning male time may have been the quickest since April 2007 (subject to poring over old results) although we cannot be sure of course comparisons!

Once again, 7Oaks Tri Club delivered a race that had slick organisation combined with a welcome for competitors and spectators alike. If you haven't experienced the challenges of the Kent countryside then keep an eye out for when entries open for 2016.

A full set of results can be seen here.

The podium results (times are S/t1/B/t2/R/total) were:
