2008 Olympic champion Jan Frodeno and Andy Potts repeated their 2014 one-two at Ironman 70.3 California on Saturday – but only after battling the impressive Canadian Lionel Sanders, who made light of a four and a half minute swim deficit to lead at T2.

Heather Jackson (USA) and Heather Wurtele (CAN) once again took the top two spots, but this year Jackson got the better of Wurtele to take the win. Great Britain’s Holly Lawrence arguably produced the standout result of the day – exiting the swim in the small lead group with Jennifer Spieldenner (USA) and Alica Kaye (USA), Lawrence hit the front on the bike and went on to set the fastest bike split to take a lead of three minutes on to the run course, pursued by the “two Heather’s.” She would be caught late in the run – but held strong to take a close third place finish. That’s an impressive result which will certainly see notice being taken Stateside – and set up Lawrence for a super 2015 season.
