There were British podium finishes in Portugal on Saturday for the 2015 edition of the Quarteira ETU European Cup.

France's Junior (2013) and Under-23 (2014) World Champion continued to show his potential by taking the win in a top five which included two further French athletes in Raphael (3rd) and Montoya (5th).

The two fastest runs of the day went to Mark Buckingham (30:26) and Matthew Sharp (30:42) respectively, which would give them second and fourth at the finish. Sharp in particular has had some great results in recent years, separated by other periods when his performances have not matched up to his undoubted talents. A strong early season result will hopefully provide the confidence and a base from which to find the consistency that the 2014 Blenheim Triathlon winner is looking for.

The London-based South Africa Gillian Sanders (also a previous Blenheim winner), who won Commonwealth Games Mixed Relay Silver last year, took the victory ahead of France's Audrey Merle. Having recently raced her first World Triathlon Series event in Abu Dhabi, Heather Sellars completed the podium in third place. Sellars has made a very swift and seemingly seemless transition from Age Grouper into the Elite ranks, and now training with Non Stanford and company in Leeds, is starting to build some solid results. With only a limited time in the sport, we could see a lot more from her over the next couple of seasons.

In the accompanying ETU Junior European Cup which took place on Sunday over the Sprint distance, top spot went to the impressive Ben Dijkstra, winner of the Youth Olympics last year.
