While at the Triathlon Show: London at ExCeL a couple of weeks ago we had a closer look at some very interesting products from Edco Wheels (www.edco-wheels.co.uk).Edco are producing some innovative products which we think will be of interest to many of our readers.

First up, their Monoblock Cassettes which are produced from one single 2.5kg bar, machined to a one piece hardened 10 or 11-speed cassette weighing from just 163g. The really clever bit is that for those of you who have perhaps upgraded and/or bought new bikes with the latest Shimano/SRAM 11-speed groupsets, your 'old' 8/9/10 speed wheels are no longer redundant. (A 'standard' Shimano/SRAM 11-speed cassette will not fit on a 10-speed hub body, leaving many people trying to offload their 'old' wheels...)

Edco produce a special 10/11 lockring which allows you to utilise an 11-speed cassette on an 10-speed hub body. We know many of you will have expensive disc wheels / aero wheels which you will want to use with your latest groupsets - and this will allow you to do it. Watch this short video for more details.

We also took a look at the Edco AeroSport wheels. More innovation here in the cassette body. Typically, wheels are either Shimano/SRAM compatible or Campagnolo compatible. Edco use a patented cassette boy called MultiSys, which makes them compatible with Campagnolo and Shimano/SRAM. If you have bikes featuring both systems (which I do...), this means you can readily switch the same wheels between bikes, simply by changing over the cassette, with no need for different wheelsets. It would also mean you can buy now, without tying yourself into a particular groupset manufacturer, which should also enhance future re-sale values too. Again, clever stuff. More about the wheels in this short video.
