Jenson Button Trust Announces All New Location & Details For 2015 Triathlon

Derby – 12th July 2015

The Jenson Button Trust, in association with Cancer Research UK, is delighted to announce the details, including a huge raft of changes, for the 2015 Jenson Button Trust Triathlon. After three incredibly successful years at Luton Hoo, the Triathlon is to move north to an all-new location – Derby City Centre!

The 2015 Jenson Button Trust Triathlon is set to be the biggest staged to date with the capacity for nearly double the amount of competitors as seen in previous years. To be held in Markeaton Park on Sunday July 12th, competitors will get the chance to race against the 2009 Formula 1™ World Champion and a number of amateur and professional triathletes.

Tickets are now available from www.jensonbuttontri.com

On the move to Derby the current McLaren Honda driver said;

“We are very excited to be heading to Derby, the move allows us to grow the capacity of the Triathlon whilst also being very careful that the event doesn't lose the charm and family atmosphere we have built over the last few years. We have been very impressed by the support and enthusiasm shown by the local council and city of Derby to help us take the event to the next level.”

Keeping to the sprint format as adopted in previous years, competitors will get the chance to race twice, with the preliminary heat consisting of a 200m lake swim, 11km cycle and 2.5km run. The top performers will then go on to the final, 400m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run, with the runners up entering the wooden spoon race.

On bringing the Triathlon to Derby head of Huub Events Dean Jackson said:

“This is a real coup for Derby. It will be a great event for local competitors and triathletes from all over the UK. We are determined to make this an event that can be enjoyed by the whole community with races for people at different levels and a real party atmosphere in the park.”

HUUB Events have worked closely with Derby City Council to pitch for the event which will be officially opened by Derby City Council Leader Cllr Ranjit Banwait.

He said: “This is fantastic news for Derby on so many fronts. The Jenson Button Trust Triathlon joins a packed programme of events which are popular with residents and visitors alike. I hope the whole of Derby get behind this event and make it a fantastic showcase for our wonderful city.”

The Jenson Button Trust Triathlon is a truly unique event, which aims to incorporate competition with a relaxed festival atmosphere. As with previous years there will be an event village, boosted in size for 2015, post race party, live music and prizes to be presented personally by Jenson.

For the second year running the Trust has partnered with Cancer Research UK with all profits and fundraising from the event going towards beating cancer sooner.
