2010 winner Paul Hawkins confirms Outlaw return

Winner of the inaugural Outlaw Triathlon, Paul Hawkins, is set to return in 2015, five years since the win that launched his professional triathlon career in 2010.

Hawkins was a relatively unknown winner in 2010, but is likely start this year's Outlaw Triathlon and Outlaw Half as favourite to win both and challenge the existing course records.

The Manchester based former Royal Marine is a father of three young children, the eldest of whom, Bella, seven, crossed the finishing line with him in 2010.

Hawkins said: “I have very fond memories from winning the first Outlaw. It was that performance in 2010 that made me realise that I was good enough to compete with some of the very best in the sport.

“If could win them both it would be incredible. Obviously it would be tough and I expect to have to fight for it, but after two years of frustration with injury I finally feel fully recovered and better motivated then ever before.”

He added: “The event has a great vibe and has an amazing attention to detail. The atmosphere is very relaxed and friendly. “

Event director, Iain Hamilton said: “Paul's return to the Outlaw is more than welcome. We have his 2010 winning picture with his young daughter on our office wall and it's a constant reminder of the fantastic launch event and what can be achieved through hard work.”

He added: “As well as Paul returning we have the 2014 women's winner, Jenny Bosman, on the starting line up. The 2015 event is shaping up to be the biggest and best yet.”

The Outlaw Half takes place on 31 May in Nottingham and the Outlaw is on 26 July. Both events are sold out, including Cancer Research charity places, but both are free to spectators to watch.
