![]() Edwards wins Laguna Phuket Triathlon Posted on: Monday 24th November 2014 Bookmark This | Print This Page | Send To A Friend | Post A Comment Sunday saw the 21st edition of the Laguna Phuket Triathlon, also known as the 'race of legends'. It also saw a British winner, as Parys Edwards took her first win as a professional. Edwards gave up more than five minutes in the water to Belinda Granger (AUS) and Katja Rabe (GER), before using the bike leg to gain back three and a half minutes of that deficit. Once on to the run however she soon closed the gaps ahead and hit the front to come home a clear winner. Edwards recently finish a strong sixth at the ETU Middle Distance Championships at Challenge Paguera, took third place at the Alpe d'Huez Long Course event behind Cat Morrison and Lucy Gossage plus third place at Ironman 70.3 Aarhus in Denmark. Parys finished 2013 as the fastest overall Age-Group athlete at the ITU World Championships in London, winning the 35-39 category. Next stop will be next weekend's Challenge Laguna Phuket over the middle distance, part of the week long Tri-Fest. In the men's race, Italian Massimo Cigana became a four-time champion of the race, but did saw in a joint finish with compatriot Alberto Casadei. As with Edwards, they will race again next week... before what is typically regarded as the biggest after-party of the triathlon season! Laguna Phuket Triathlon, Sunday 23rd November 2014
