Two 70.3 races on the calendar this weekend, both in the US - here's a roundup from Ironman 70.3 Timberman and Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens.

Ironman 70.3 Timberman

The women's race started in usual fashion with the fish-like Amanda Stevens (USA) heading the field out of the water, taking 2:30 out of race favourite and two-time Ironman 70.3 World Champion Melissa Hauschildt (AUS). Hauschildt then reverted to type once on dry land, passed Stevens (and everyone else in between them), with a race best bike split before adding even more time with her killer run to come home well over seven minutes clear of Linsey Corbin (USA).

If Stevens leading the women out of the water is predictable, the same can be said about the men when Andy Potts races. He delivered of course, almost a minute clear of Igor Amorelli (BRA) and a further 90 seconds to the dangerous grouping on Leon Griffin (AUS), Andreas Dreitz (GER), Callum Millward (NZL) and Chris Leiferman (USA). Amorelli would produce the fastest ride of the day, building another two minutes on the chasers while a mechanical for Potts would cost him dearly and put him out of contention for the win. Would almost three and a half minutes for Amorelli at T2 over Griffin and Millward be enough? No - Griffen closed quickly in the early stages, caught the Brazilian in the first half of the run and pulled away to a clear win.

Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens

We had a close finish in Nanjing, China at the Youth Olympic Games over the Sprint distance - and there was another one in Lake Steven as Terenzo Bozzone (NZL) and Ben Hoffman (USA) ran neck-and-neck down the finish straight with the Kiwi former Ironman 70.3 World Champion Bozzone just getting the verdict - the gap officially 0.79 seconds!

First of of the swim in a small ladies Pro field alongside Jessica Smith (USA), Melanie McQuad (CAN) quickly dropped the hammer on the bike and swiftly rode away from the field to build a healthy lead at T2. While Liz Lyles (USA) was able to regain two and half minutes on the run, it wasn't enough to prevent McQuaid taking a clear win.
