Scotland's Marc Austin is one of the new generation of young British triathletes looking to follow in the footsteps of the all conquering Brownlee brothers, Tim Don, Will Clarke and the long line of British success in ITU racing.

Already an ITU World Junior Silver medal winner in Hyde Park last September (watch the highlights HERE), this is Marc's first season in the senior ranks, a year which has seen his get his first taste of ITU World Triathlon Series racing, race the Kitzbühel European Championships (winning a Bronze medal in the Mixed Team Relay), and also representing Scotland in the Commonwealth Games.

His finishing position in the Commonwealth Games - 22nd - will gain few headlines, but his efforts in the first 75 minutes of that race certainly did. A fine swim put him in an early lead group of four alongside Alistair, Jonathan and South Africa's Henri Schoeman. When Schoeman misjudged a corner early in lap one, that left a leading trio - with Marc riding with two of the best athletes we've ever seen. Battling hard to stay with them - and making his own efforts where possible, the pace finally became too much for the youngster at the beginning of the final lap.

On the eve of the (subsequently cancelled due to extreme weather conditions), Men's Elite race at Tri Liverpool at the weekend, I spoke to Marc about his Commonwealth Games experience, the transition to the Senior ranks and his future racing plans.
