Are Great Britain's Caroline and Mark Livesey the fastest amateur Iron-couple?!

Last weekend, Ironman Austria took place in Klagenfurt on the shores of the beautiful Lake Worthsee. This is an incredibly popular event amongst British age group athletes who account for nearly 400 places each year. Around 3000 competitors flock to the event which has already sold out for 2015.

This year conditions were near perfect with warm temperatures but some cloud cover that prevented the searing heat the race experienced in 2012. Fast times were recorded by the professionals as a result, with female winner Linsey Corbain recording a new female course record.

Fresh from their success at Ironman Texas where they both won their age groups and qualified for the Ironman World Championships, Caroline and Mark Livesey were the fastest UK athletes in Austria. Paul Kaye, the “voice of Ironman” in Europe commented that they are probably the fastest amateur married Iron-couple.

Caroline won her age group by a staggering 20 minutes confirming her domination of this category (she won by 30 mins in Texas), and giving her realistic hopes of a podium in Kona. She recorded a new PB of 9 hours and 46 minutes to finish 15th lady overall. She commented “Ironman Austria is a fantastic event. The venue is stunning and the event very well organized. I had a great day and I was really pleased with my result - much of which is down to having a great coach and being able to track my training accurately with the new Xhale training software.” Mark runs Functional Fitness Coaching which has developed Xhale (www.trainxhale.com) specifically for triathletes.

Mark Livesey has been suffering with a foot injury since Texas, but still put in a very strong performance to finish in a new PB time of 9 hours and 4 minutes to finish 55th overall. He commented “I am happy with my performance given my limited run preparation over the last six weeks. My aim is still to podium at Kona and I am looking forward to getting some solid training in before that. Sub-9 in Hawaii is a tall order but one I know I am capable of.”

Caroline and Mark will both be racing at Aberfeldy British Middle Distance Triathlon in August. They would like to thank sponsors Specialized, HUUB, proto-col and Brodie Skin Care for all their help and support.
